South32, a mining and metals company headquartered in Australia, reported that its nickel production 9,600 tons in the first quarter of the fiscal year 2022 (July-September 2021), falling by 12% compared to the previous quarter and also dropping by 4% from the same period a year ago.

During the period, South32’s nickel sales reached 10,400 tons, up by 1% quarter on quarter and remaining flat year on year.

The decline in nickel production was due to the impact of an unplanned transformer outage in the third quarter of 2021. The production guidance for the fiscal year 2022 remained unchanged at 43,800 tons, and the reduced output will recover after taking action in the remaining period of this year.
