IAI: US and Canada’s aluminum demand falls in Q1 2023 y-o-y

According to statistics from the International Aluminium Institute (IAI), aluminum demand in the US and Canada, including domestic producers’ shipments and imports, totaled an estimated 6.1 million pounds in the first quarter of 2023, compared to 6.5 million pounds in the same period last year.

During the period, the demand for aluminum foil and electrical wire and cable increased by 3.8% and 7.9% year on year, respectively. In total, the semi-fabricated or mill product demand slid by 7.3% year on year.

Besides, exports of aluminum, excluding scrap, hiked by 18.5% year on year in the first quarter. Aluminum and aluminum products imports fell by 24.2% year on year, compared to a growth of 26.8% in 2022.
