Following a recent industrial dispute between DP World Australia and the Maritime Union of Australia, the Maritime Union of Australia has announced a series of 24-hour strike actions that will last until the third week of November. The strike will affect a delay in Australian logistics for recent shipments.
At the heart of the dispute is the terminal operator's proposal for a flexible scheduling system, which, in fact, dramatically increases employees' weekend hours, amounting to a 32% reduction in wages.
In addition, DP World Australia plans to increase terminal charges significantly in Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney, imposing terminal usage charges of 37.5% and 26.2% for export and import cargo in Brisbane, 38.8% and 25.5% in Sydney and 52.5% and 21.2% in Melbourne.
