US tariffs on steel and aluminum are expected to annually impact EUR 36.3 million in exports from Catalonia's 34 companies, according to Catalonia Trade & Investment (ACCIÓ).
While Catalonia exported EUR 127 million of these metals in 2023, the targeted categories are highly specific and the overall impact is projected to be very limited. Despite this, industry leaders warn of indirect effects on sectors like automotive and housing.
Anudal, a Badalona-based aluminum manufacturer, anticipated a 5-10% drop in foreign sales, particularly due to lower demand from Mexican buyers affected by US tariffs.
Eva Hernámperez, Anudal’s general director, noted that rising aluminum prices, driven by market uncertainty, pose a bigger challenge than the tariffs themselves. Trump’s policies are increasing market volatility.
