Ukraine's domestic steel consumption rises sharply in Jan 2025

According to data from the Ukrainian steelmakers' association Ukrmetallurgprom, Ukraine's domestic steel consumption in January this year was around 297,000 tons, significantly up by 116% year-on-year, of which imports accounted for 103,000 tons.
In terms of exports, Ukraine's exports of steel plates and profiles in January were 155,500 tons and 49,900 tons, up by 15.8% and 15.5% year-on-year, respectively. The export volume of semi-finished steel reached 80,700 tons, down by 63.8% year-on-year.
The main export markets were the 27 EU countries (69.6%), other European countries (12.4%), and Africa (7.7%).
In terms of imports, Ukraine imported 89,100 tons of steel plates in January, up by 24.8% year-on-year. The import volume of profiles reached 11,000 tons, down by 14% year-on-year.
The main import markets were other European countries (61.3%), EU-27 (24.7%), and Asia (13.8%).
