US President Trump will impose a 25% tariff on imports of steel and aluminum from March 12, including previously exempted South Korean steel. This policy has drawn global attention, prompting South Korean steelmakers to accelerate production and logistics to maximize exports before the tariffs take effect.
Industry sources said that companies are optimizing production schedules and transportation plans and securing additional shipping capacity to boost deliveries to the US.
Previously, South Korea exported 2.63 million tons of steel to the US under a duty-free quota, but the new policy will make them subject to Trump's tariff measures.
