Indian state-owned steelmaker Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL) will restart its third blast furnace (BF) at the end of June after it was shut down in 2023 due to a lack of funds, symbolizing the company's gradual recovery from the financial crisis.
The restart of this BF will increase RINL's annual production capacity from 5 million tons to 7.5 million tons.
It is understood that this turnaround came from the US$1.34 billion bailout plan approved by the Indian government in early 2025, covering equity injection and debt restructuring. With the funds in place, RINL starts to actively resume production and improve capacity utilization.
As an important steel manufacturer in India, its restructuring process has attracted much attention and is closely related to the country's steel policy.
