The Polish Parliament’s Economic and Development Committee has urged the Prime Minister to take immediate action to improve the situation of the domestic steel industry. The main reason is that the steel sector is facing fierce competition from duty-free steel imports from Ukraine, which has sparked dissatisfaction among business representatives and labor unions.

Michał Jaros, Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Technology, stated that the government will strive to ensure that steel plants are not victims of the transition, but active participants and beneficiaries.

Industry representatives emphasized that the effectiveness of government measures will depend on the speed and strength of implementation. They called for the immediate activation of relevant EU regulations that allow suspension of protective measure exemptions when import volumes surge to a level that causes serious harm to companies producing similar or directly competing products within the EU.
