Vietnam’s Jan steel imports exceed $1 billion, up 50% y-o-y

According to data from the General Statistics Office of Vietnam, Vietnam’s total imports reached US$44.97 billion in January 2026, up 49.2% year-on-year.
Steel imports alone surpassed US$1.03 billion, marking a sharp 50.1% increase compared with the same period last year. Foreign-invested enterprises accounted for US$32.06 billion of total imports, rising 66.8%, while domestic firms imported US$12.9 billion, up 18.2%.
China was Vietnam’s largest supplier, with imports totaling US$19 billion, followed by South Korea, ASEAN countries, Japan, the United States, and the European Union. Eight product categories recorded import values exceeding US$1 billion, led by electronics, machinery, fabrics, and steel products.
