Ghana Manganese Company Limited (GMC) says it expects to achieve a record monthly production of 700,000 tonnes in August as rainfall subsides and newly commissioned heavy equipment enters full operation, bringing the company closer to its annual production target of eight million tonnes.
In a press release signed by the Deputy Managing Director, Sun Yuanwei, the company said improved weather conditions at its Nsuta open-pit mine in the Western Region, coupled with the gradual deployment of new mining equipment, are expected to significantly boost output.
According to GMC, mining operations between May and July were affected by the rainy season, which slowed haulage and ore processing. However, reduced rainfall in August has created more favourable mining conditions.
“Ghana Manganese Company projects that monthly production will reach 700,000 tonnes in August, driven by declining rainfall and the progressive commissioning of new heavy equipment,” the statement said.
The company said it remains committed to improving operational efficiency and strengthening its competitiveness through innovation.
It noted that, in addition to supplying manganese ore to the global steel industry, its high-grade carbonate manganese ore is increasingly in demand as a key raw material for the rapidly expanding electric vehicle and new-energy battery industries.
GMC said the anticipated increase in production would help ensure a stable supply of manganese to international markets while supporting the Government of Ghana’s value-addition agenda, including plans to establish a manganese refinery to enhance local processing and generate greater economic benefits.
The company expressed confidence that stronger output in August would boost its performance in the second half of the year and said it would continue to monitor weather conditions while maximising the use of its newly deployed high-efficiency mining fleet to meet its annual production target.
