【Preface】

Global manganese ore resources are rich, but the distribution is extremely uneven. According to the latest USGS data, the global manganese (metal) reserve is 570 million tons in 2013. South Africa, Ukraine, Australia, Brazil and India are big five manganese ore reserves countries, amounted to 490 million tons, and accounted for 86% of total reserves.

Manganese resources in Chinaare insufficient. The Chinese manganese ore is mainly in low grade. As of 2013,China's manganese ore (metal) reserve is 44,000,000 tons, accounting for 7.7% of global reserves, ranking sixth. However, Chinese domestic manganese ore grade is not high with low utilization rate of mining. The average grade of manganese ore inChinais 20% far lower than other major manganese producing country, even lower than the global average (35%).

However, the domestic manganese ore supply is still far from meeting the domestic demand, and relying on imports. At present,China’s steel production is accounted for half of the world supported manganese ore demand.Chinahas imported over 16,213,657 tons of manganese ore in 2014.
